MEET OUR MAYOR CHARLENE HERRING
I am an educator by profession having obtained a BA in History from Columbia College and a Masters Degree + 30 hours in Elementary Education and Administration from USC. I am currently serving as an Educational Consultant having retired from Richland School District Two where I was the Chief Academic Officer,Principal, Assistant Principal, Curriculum Coordinator and Teacher.
I became Mayor of Ridgeway, South Carolina in 2006 and have completed my eighth year in office. I have lived in Ridgeway in the middle of Town for 14 years with my husband and former council member, Roger Herring. I have two daughters and two grandchildren.
Looking out my kitchen window and being able to see all of main street compelled me with a vision and desire to make a difference in Ridgeway, South Carolina, a quaint southern town with a rich heritage. My desire to serve is summed up in three words; Revitalization, Responsibility and Relationships.
The Town of Ridgeway has been recognized by the MASC for the proposal " If Cities Mean Business then Ridgeway is En Business, Entrepreneurial Business". Ridgeway will be recognized again in July 2014 for the proposal, "One Tank Town Goes Social". Where there were once seven businesses fourteen now operate, mostly owned by families and women. Special festivals such as Pig on the Ridge and Arts on the Ridge, seasonal gatherings,Holidays on the Ridge, Promenade on the Ridge, and The Big Grab and monthly events which include First Fridays bring many visitors to Ridgeway to shop, tour and dine.
America was built on small businesses and will continue to thrive by their creation and existence. The Town of Ridgeway is blessed by a plethora of entrepreneurial businesses.
